Perhaps life looks functional from the outside,
yet something within feels strained,
muted, or difficult to access.

This may have built quietly, surfacing as irritability, emotional distance, or a lingering sense that something is not quite right.

Many men have been taught to value strength, control, and endurance, often without much room for vulnerability, grief, or fear. In trying to live up to those expectations, they can grow distant from parts of themselves.

For some, therapy may feel more possible when they can speak with another man. Certain experiences may feel easier to name in the presence of someone who understands those pressures more closely.

Bastion Therapy offers a steady refuge for reflection, clarity, and a more grounded relationship with yourself.

Hi, I am Matthew, a Registered Psychotherapist and your co-traveller within sessions.

I focus on creating an empathetic space where we can explore the deeper patterns shaping how you think and respond, while also building more empowering ways of meeting yourself and your life.

A practical approach for modern men

I take a person-centered approach, so therapy does not follow a rigid script or force you into a framework that does not fit. I also draw from solution-focused and psychodynamic therapy, which helps make support feel more connected to your day to day life and unconscious patterns.

I support men who may be working through:

A strained relationship with masculinity

You feel pressured into living up to a version of masculinity that leaves little room for your true self.

Life transitions and changing responsibilities

Career shifts, divorce, fatherhood, or other major changes can bring stress, doubt, and a loss of direction.

Assertiveness, boundaries, and self-trust

You struggle to express your needs, hold your ground, or respond constructively to conflicts.

Sexual or intimacy concerns

Changes in desire, sexual performance concerns, emotional distance in intimacy, questions around sexual identity, and experiences that feel hard to talk about.

Divorce, separation, and relationship wounds

You are working through conflict, betrayal, or disconnection. Let’s seek to make better sense together of what is happening and explore healing and growth.

My own professional experience working as a family law lawyer and my lived experience as a husband and father of two helps inform my approach.

I’m glad you’ve made it this far.

Therapy can feel intimidating, and it takes courage to ask for help and seek new tools.

Welcome to Bastion Therapy. I am Matthew Pitts, a Registered Psychotherapist based in Toronto, Ontario. I specialize in men’s issues, and I offer virtual therapy across Canada.

Before entering psychotherapy, I spent over four years in family law, working as a lawyer, and also worked in finance as a buy-side Analyst. I am also a husband and father, which gives me a lived understanding of responsibility, commitment, conflict, and the quiet pressure many men carry.

As a co-traveller within therapy, I offer a grounded and confidential space where difficult things can be spoken more honestly.

I welcome you to book a free 30-minute consultation so we can explore what has been weighing on you and whether working together feels like the right fit.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I feel hesitant about starting therapy?

I understand where you’re coming from. Therapy can feel like a big step, especially if you are used to handling things on your own. I hope you feel comfortable enough to reach out to me at Bastion Therapy to schedule a free 30-minute consultation. When you feel ready, you can either give me a call 647-220-4709, email matthewpittspsy@protonmail.com, or sign-up via Jane App.

What does being a co-traveller in therapy mean?

It means I work alongside you, not above you. I create a space of unconditional positive regard, where you can speak openly, feel supported, and work through difficulties in a way that feels collaborative and grounded.

How do I know if Bastion Therapy is the right fit for me?

If you are looking for a grounded space to pause, reflect, and work specifically with a male therapist with whom you feel more comfortable sharing your experiences, Bastion Therapy may be the right fit for you.

The word bastion refers to a protective structure built into a fortress or castle. In therapy, it reflects the kind of space I aim to offer: steady, supportive, and safe enough for honest reflection. It also speaks to the importance of healthy boundaries, which help protect your wellbeing and support a more genuine relationship with yourself and others.
